A safer option for younger babies

Learn about the reasons for rear-facing infant car seats and how to be sure car seats protect your infant when you’re on the road. These car seats harness up to 65 pounds and present a safer option for younger, heavier babies than moving to a booster seat at a young age. Heavier babies may outgrow some convertible car seats by age 3, though. Babies should stay in 5-point harness car seats through at least age 4 and about 40 toddler car seat pounds whenever possible. Car seat inspection stations and check events can help you determine whether or not your child’s car seat is installed properly. Are you a believer in extended rear-facing. New research shows that toddlers are more than 5 times safer in the car if they stay rear-facing until age two.
