What is the most Common cause of Severs Disease?
It is thought that the most common cause of heel pain in children is Severs disease. This condition is considered a strain of the cartilage growth plate at the back of the heel bone. This cartilage growth plate disappears around age 15, so does not happen after this age. Overused is the most common cause of this problem, especially playing too much sport on hard surfaces. The pain is most pronounced on squeezing the heel or stretching the calf muscle. The use of soft heel raises to cushion the heel is the most common treatment for this and relieves the pull of the Achilles tendon at the back of the heel bone.
