Mailboxes
In the area of the country where I live now, there are no rural mail routes. Everybody has a post office box, which is really too bad, because post office boxes all look the same and can’t express your personality the way decorative mailboxes can. Even plain mailboxes are more aesthetic than post office boxes, with their bright, red flags contrasting against the standard gray, signaling to the mail lady that there is mail inside to be delivered. We had one of these where I lived as a child, and that was one of my first household responsibilities, running the mail to the box on time and remembering to flip up that red flag.
