Traveling with Dogs
I just got back from a trip to a hunt test, about 150 miles away. While traveling with my bird dogs safe in their kennels in the back of the truck I began to notice so many other people travel with their dogs loose in the car. As I thought more and more about it I began to get concerned for these other dog’s safety. When I arrived at the hunt test and talked to other guys who ran gun dogs the consensus was that putting your dog in a crate while traveling is the safest method for transporting your dog. One gentleman also mentioned that he heard of legislation being put forward to require dog seat belts for those owners that chose not to use a crate while traveling. My preference is to keep the dog in a crate that way if I stop fast he will not be tossed about in the cab of the truck.
