Are parents responsibile for teaching kids about money?

Before parents started working full time, children spent most of their time learning from them.  Included in these learnings were Values and Work Skills.

As things started to change and children spent more time at school and less time with their parents, the education system focused on teaching the children work skills to help them get a secure job and did not cover the important concepts such as values, day to day living skills such as money management and ways for kids to earn money.

Parents are now expecting the education system to teach their children not only work skills, but all the real life skills (even though this was once the parents’ responsibility).

How can this be achieved?  With great difficulty.  Learning skills such as money management in school is very different to learning them in real life as you can’t replicate working for and dealing with real money.  At best, you can only use play money and simulate situations in the classroom
