High Speed Networking guide for may parents ISP
For the pre-internet generation, connecting your computer to the net through high speed DSL providers may not be an easy task. My 60 + year old parents who live in a small town in Indiana are slowly venturing into the scary world of computers and internet. Their biggest barrier to entry into this was the old modem they were using, it was clunky, they could no get their calls while on line (cell phones are strictly for emergencies for these folks.) I sent them the following via “snail mail” after having ordered the hardware for them. Dad Mom, I am sending you a couple of things that you will need to get on to the internet using your new cable modem. I know Lucy has set up your cable modem so here we go. Take the box that says “router” I want you to take one of the blue wire that is coming out of the modem into the back of this router (it should be the hole by itself not the 4 that are together.) Now plug another 2 wire into your and your mom’s computers. Restart the cable modem, router and computer (in that order) and you will be on line – call me if you have any questions…
