Though professional recording studios are feeling the economic pinch since the prevalence of recording software for the DIY set has become cheap or even free, there is still a need in the industry for trained audio engineer techs. In fact, it may need them more than ever. Along with the the cheap innovations come hacks and wanna be’s who can legally call themselves engineers though they have no actual education under their belts. Or any hours logged as an apprentice. The digital age is bringing amazing changes and opportunity for better sound reproduction but it is also ushering in a new era of ‘engineers’ who know nothing but button pushing and vocal distortion and calling it talent.
